Toby Garfitt

Toby Garfitt has been a Reader at St Clement’s since 1980. He is married to Helen and has three daughters.

Toby is a Fellow of Magdalen College, where he teaches French language and literature, with a special interest in Christian writers of the 20th century. He has a longstanding involvement with the Association Européenne François Mauriac, which explores issues of literature and spirituality.

Toby has since 1990 been Chairman and Trustee of the Oxford Pastorate (e-mail: oxpastorate@clara.net), an evangelical trust set up over a hundred years ago to promote Christian work among university students: the Pastorate employs a full-time Chaplain, who is attached to St Aldates Church.
